Liverpool have today confirmed the signing of Sadio Mané from Southampton. The 24 year old arrived on Merseyside yesterday to complete a medical, has signed his contract and will officially become a Liverpool player on Friday.
The Senegalese joins the Anfield club after two years at Southampton, where he scored more goals against his new club than against any other team.
He becomes Jurgen Klopp’s fourth major signing as Liverpool manager, following the earlier arrivals of Marko Grujic, Joel Matip and Loris Karius.
After signing the deal, Mané told the Liverpool website:“Today is a big day and I am very happy to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe. It’s a club that has won a lot of trophies and has a big history. Now I am looking forward to meeting all the staff and my teammates and starting the season.”
It is, however, believed that the club will look to offload Belgian striker Christian Benteke to make back some of the money spent on their new signing.
It is speculated that, Sadio Mane arrival at Anfield will signal the end of the Liverpool line for Christian Benteke.West Ham United are reported to have withdrawn their interest from Benteke but Crystal Palace are reported to have replaced the Hammers in raiding the “outcast”.
The incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is said to be apparently keen on making Christian Benteke one of his first signings when he arrives at Stamford Bridge.Mane has Joined Wanyama in what may be termed as mass exit from St. Mary’s stadium.
