Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has committed his future to the club, extending his contract at the Merseyside by a further four years.
The 49-year-old tactician was appointed as the Reds coach in October last year and initially signed a three-year deal worth €18 million.
Klopp lead Liverpool to the Europa League final before losing 3-1 to Sevilla as well as a run to the Capital One Cup final where they lost to Manchester City on penalties.
The charismatic boss joined the club following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers last October and is hopeful that the new deal can spark an era of success on Merseyside
Klopp’s original contract was due to expire in 2018 but now he will now remain at the club until 2022, with the club owners claiming that it would be ‘irresponsible’ not to have offered the coach a long-term deal.
“When you have an individual of Jürgen’s quality in the building it makes perfect sense to secure that person for the long term. To not do so would be irresponsible,” said owner John Henry, Chairman Tom Werner and Fenway Sports Group President Mike Gordon in a joint statement.
Meanwhile, Klopp claims that he is honoured by the new deal, and hopes to repay the faith of the club’s owners.
