The Kenya livestock Marketing Council (KLMC) Chairman, Dubat Amey has rallied communities in the North Eastern region to go for the Covid-19 jab.
Speaking to the press in Garissa town today, Amey said the communities in the area should not be left out in the ongoing vaccination exercise because of the unfounded rumours and propaganda.
“We cannot be left out in this important vaccination exercise. I have already taken my jab and feel okay. I urge the elderly persons especially those above 58 years to go for the jab,” Amey said.
Amey further raised concerns over the increasing deaths in Garissa suspected to be from Covid-19 complications.
The chair called on the county and national governments together with the elected leaders to come to the ground and sensitize the citizens on the pandemic.
“I have lost six relatives in the past 10 days. Corona virus is real and people are dying. We want the government to give an official statement about the state of Covid-19 and response in Garissa County,” he added.
The chair lauded president Uhuru Kenyatta’s containment measures issued last month restricting movements into and from the covid-19 hotpot areas.
He called on citizens and civil organizations to stop lamenting but join the government in advancing ministry of health Covid-19 protocols.
Garissa County has so far reported 860 cumulative cases of Covid-19 with more than 29 deaths since March this year.
