LOCK DOWN LED TO 75% CANCELLATION OF BOOKINGS IN THE MAASAI MARA

After the government put a lock down on five counties, the tourism sector was also affected again leading to 75% of Maasai Mara bookings for Easter being cancelled immediately.

Speaking in Narok county, Governor Samuel Ile tunai who is also the Chairman of tourism in the council of governors said that this lock down has come in a time when tourists are had started flocking in the country for the Easter holiday considering Maasai Mara was fully booked during the Easter period but immediately president Uhuru announced the lock down for the five counties, booking was cancelled immediately and this will continue making the tourism sector generate zero income like last year when the pandemic was first reported in the county.
He added that now the remaining workers in the hospitality sector might now lose their jobs since the sector is bringing zero income and hotels will have no money to pay them instead they will send them home.
Tunai says even if the Maasai Mara game reserve is bringing zero income, it’s good for the country to seriously take the laid out measures to make sure this pandemic is been controlled to save lives. He added that he is having a conversation with the health ministry officials and the government to allow those tourists who are in the country and have already booked to be allowed to move around as they follow health ministry protocols to make sure this sector is not dead completely.
