Drought is looming in the dry parts of Baringo County as plants have started to wilt following a long dry spell for the past four months.
Locals are warning that if the situation continues to persist then many will suffer as water sources have dried up ,livelihoods affected also learning will be disrupted as pupils will miss school due to lack of food and water.
Pasture for livestock has diminished forcing the livestock to feed on leaves of trees for grass which has rendered many livestock to die with locals slaughtering others to avert more losses.
Joshua Changwony , a resident from Sibilo, Baringo North warned that the region is already facing the effects of drought as locals trek long distances in search for pasture and water urging the National government to supply schools with food .
Jonathan Tokei , a professional from the region, appealed to National and County governments to swing into action before many are affected by the looming disaster.
Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis who attributed the drought to lack of rain in the region directed the county disaster department to start distributing water to regions affected by water scarcity urging the National government to immediately address the looming disaster.
