The Law Society of Kenya council has happily announced that the National Assembly Committee on Delegated Legislation ratified the move to reduce practicing certificate fees for newly admitted advocates.
According to the President of the Law Society of Kenya Faith Odhiambo, the council believe that the reduction of the fee will facilitate more advocates to their profession.
“We believe that this reduction will facilitate more tenable realities for young advocates as they begin their careers and navigate the onset difficulties of the legal profession,” Faith Odhiambo wrote on her X account.
The LSK President emphasized that the rates are reflective of the unique circumstances experienced by the practitioners.
“The new rates as indicated in Legal Notices 110 and 111 of 15th July 2024 are reflective of the unique circumstances faced by practitioners at every level, while maintaining the balance of reasonable resources required for the proper functioning of the Society,” she said.
“A member who has practiced for a period off more than five years will pay an annual subscription of Ksh. 7300, a member who practiced for a period three years but not more than five years pays a subscription fee of Ksh. 4500, a member who practiced for two years to pay an annual subscription of Ksh. 3000 while a member who has practiced for one year to pay Ksh. 2000 and Ksh. 1000 for a member who has practiced for less than a one year,” states the Notice.
The LSK President emphasized that the council dedication to enhancing the practice environment and achieving the best outcomes for all its members.
“The council remains committed to improving the legal practice environment and delivering the best outcomes for all our members,” she added.
However the LSK council believes that this adjustment will create more sustainable conditions for new advocates, helping them navigate the initial hurdles of the legal profession.
