Safaricom has announced that its M-Pesa head has left the company, during a very critical period when M-Pesa is undergoing an upgrade.
Ronald Webb, the company’s director of financial services, will be stepping down from his position today, having served the company in that position for a year.
“I wish him all the best as he returns following 18 productive years in Kenya,” Bob Collymore said in a staff memo, ““In the meantime, I would like to ask that we all give our usual support to Brian Wamatu, who will be standing in as interim director, financial services.”
Mr. Webb was previously one of Equity bank’s executives. He had been very vocal in propagating the growth of Equity’s mobile money payment platforms.
Before he started working at Equity, he was the co-founder and chief-architect of the Paynet and PesaPoint payment platforms in Zimbabwe as well as in Kenya.
