Machakos county CECs on the hot seat for squandering county funds

Machakos County CECs on Monday appeared before the oversight committee Chaired by the Speaker, Florence Mwangangi for interrogation over alleged mismanagement and squandering of public funds.
There has been a public outcry in the recent past over lack of drugs at the hospital facilities which brought to the attention of County Assembly Members to summon the officials before the Committee and explain why mwananchi has been unable to get quality healthcare services.
Executive Committee Members (CEC’s) Dr, Ancent Kituku (Health and Emergency Services), Francis Maliti ( Finance and Revenue Collection) and their Chief Officers found themselves at the receiving end when MCAs asked them why ordering of drugs and other necessities could not be treated with utmost urgency.
Finance CEC Francis Maliti however noted that during the budget making process they didn’t anticipate that the ministry’s budget will be strained.
The CEC noted that the healthcare provision is still under UHC as patients do not pay for the services provided and the admitted patients from neighbouring counties meant that their budget had to be stretched.
After the grilling of County departmental heads, all eyes await to see if there will be an improvement in the status of health facilities in the county. Maliti said they forwarded a motion in the county assembly for a supplementary budget approval, he’s optimistic that by Wednesday this week drugs will have arrived in all health facilities.
