Education cabinet secretary(CS) Prof. George Magoha has challenged parents and teachers to be more proactive if they were to stem current indiscipline in learners.
In what appeared to be his change of tune on discipline in schools, the CS predicted re-introduction of standardized corporal punishment on learners should the current wanting behavior persist.
Addressing the media after inspecting Nyabururu DOK primary school in Kitutu Chache South sub county, the Magoha demanded identification of the girl-child abusers so that they could face the law.
He remarked it was not enough bring to allow expectant learners in schools while their abusers roamed free.
The CS ordered immediate confiscation of sanitizers from learners which were meant to protect them from covid19 contagion saying the items were being abused owing to the alcohol content in them.
The sanitizers were also highly inflammable and could be used to torch schools,he added.
He hinted underway consultation with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to conduct random inspections in suspected schools with a view to nabbing intoxicated learners.
According to Magoha, creation of a data bank jointly with the DCI was underway for learners who engaged in gross violations of school rules and the law of the land, a move that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.
The CS, however, assured this year’s national examination candidates that the government had taken care of the covid19 disruptions on their preparations urging them to sit for the papers courageously as from Mach 19 2012.
