Makueni County Bar owners Association have raised an alarm over increase in second generation and illicit brews that has crippled their business further even as Covid-19 pandemic effects continue to ravage the liquor sector.
They however lamented that even as their businesses continue to make losses, the county government has continued to heavily tax them through several licenses that one must have to be able to operate. Led by their chairperson, Alex Maingi, the association said that it was wrong for authorities to allow the second-generation brews from unauthorized dealers back into shelves at a time when their businesses were badly affected. He asked the government to consider withdrawing some of the license requirements as a way of cushioning their works.
