Makueni County Commissioner (CC) Gilbert Kitiyo has cautioned students to avoid abusing drugs and alcohol to enable them achieve good grades and excel in their lives.
Speaking during commissioning of Competency Based Classroom (CBC) units at Nthia and Kiambani secondary school in Makindu Sub County, Kitiyo said drugs and alcohol ruins both student academic grades and life.
“Declining grades, absenteeism from school, indiscipline cases and dropping out of school and early pregnancies is attributed to drugs and alcohol abuse. So be focused,” said Kitiyo.
The CC reiterated government commitment in ensuring that all students get a conducive learning environment through constructing school infrastructure and recruiting teachers.
He reminded the students and parents that the government has paid their school fees and instructed school principals to avoid sending students home for non-payment.
“The government has disbursed capitation funds to primary and secondary schools for all the learners in public schools,” added Kitiyo.
