Man injured in a politically instigated attack

A middle aged man is nursing serious injuries after he was assaulted yesterday in an alleged politically instigated attack.

Samwel Ochola, a Homa-Bay town based newspaper vendor said he was attacked by a young man who accused him of being allied to a certain gubernatorial candidate.

Ochola, who sustained serious injuries on the right side of his abdomen was rushed to Homa Bay Community Medical Centre for medication.

The vendor told journalists that he was selling newspapers as usual but suddenly, he was attacked by a young man who accused him of being a supporter of a particular gubernatorial contestant.

“I was selling the newspapers but the young man came and accused me of being allied to a gubernatorial candidate. Before I said anything, he began boxing me,” Ochola said.

“My main source of livelihood is the sale of newspapers. I am not a politician hence cannot understand the reason for this assault,” said Ochola.

He recorded a statement at Homa Bay Police Station with Occurrence Book number 26/15/07/22.

“I appeal to our security officials to intervene and help me. I am in serious pain and cannot sell newspapers today,” Ochola said.

Homa Bay Sub-county Police Commander Sammy Koskey said a manhunt for the assailant had begun.

“Let the victim get a P3 form and fill it as we track down the attacker. Any perpetrators of political violence will not be spared,” Koskey said.
