Residents of Kamandura village in Kamirithu, Limuru, Kiambu County, are grappling with shock and grief following the brutal killing of a 34-year-old mother of three by her estranged husband, who later took his own life.

The tragic incident unfolded yesterday evening when the victim, returning from a Chama meeting at Kamirithu Shopping Centre, was ambushed by her husband, Paul Waweru Waithera.

Police reports indicate that the suspect, armed with a crude weapon, attacked her in the company of another woman.

“Probing the murder, police established that the victim was heading home from the Chama meeting held at Kamirithu Shopping Centre in the company of another woman, when the husband accosted them while armed with a crude weapon,” stated the DCI.

The companion managed to escape and alert the village elder, but it was too late to save the mother of three.

The elder, accompanied by a search party, discovered the woman’s mutilated body in a nearby cornfield. Later that night, the suspect’s body was found hanging from the roof of his house, an apparent suicide.

“As he grabbed the mother of his children, the other woman managed to escape and informed the village elder. Unfortunately, by the time a search party found the woman, she was dead and cold. The suspect’s body would later be found dangling from the roof of his house, dead,” added the detectives.

Crime Scene Investigators processed both scenes, and the bodies were taken to Tigoni Level IV Hospital mortuary for preservation.

However the detectives have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
