A Kisumu court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for defiling a 4-year-old child in Kisumu.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the suspect was charged with defilement contrary to Section 8 (1) (2) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.
According to investigations by the ODPP, the heinous act occurred on 6th January 2025 at Sega Sega area in Kisumu County.
“The court heard that the crime occurred on January 6, 2025, at Sega Sega area in Kisumu Central within Kisumu County,” noted the ODPP.
In addition to defilement charges, the accused was also charged with an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a minor under Section 11 (1) of the Sexual Offences Represented by Mr. Newton Ochieng, the prosecution presented evidence and testimonies from five witnesses, which outlined the details of the crime.
“The evidence revealed that on the day of January 6th, 2025 at around 1300hrs, the complainant was asked by the accused to follow him into his house. Upon her arrival, he forced her to remove her under garments and went on to sexually assaulted her,” stated the ODPP.
The court, in its ruling, determined that the evidence presented by the prosecution conclusively proved the accused’s guilt under Section 8(1)(2) of the Sexual Offences Act, resulting in a conviction and life sentence.
