McDonald Mariga ,the Kenya’s International midfielder has been suspended from playing for his club, US Latina Calcio, for the next five matches after attacking the center referee.
A report says that Mariga had been red-carded before proceeding to shake the referee’s hand but instead squeezed him hard until the match official bled.He then went off the pitch hurling insults at the referee.
However, his team stated that it would appeal the decision by the Displinary Commission so that the Kenyan midfilder could play in the next match.
Mariga signed with Latina earlier in the year and has since played 13 marches, scoring two goals.
He was the first Kenyan footballer to play in the UEFA Champions League as well as get crowned champion, a title he clinched while at Inter Milan in the year 2010.
In his European career, Mariga featured for Parma, Real Sociedad and Helsingborgs IF.
His brother Victor Wanyama, who is currently playing for Southampton, was also banned for five matches but after receiving three red cards in a single season.
