Cabinet secretaries; Fred Matiang’i (Interior), flagged by his ICT counterpart Joe Mucheru have commissioned the construction of a ultra-modern security command centre as a sound path to offering physical and cyber security structures.
This was deemed as a way of confronting any arising insecurity challenges and boosting confidence among both local and international investors at the upcoming Konza Technopolis city.
Matiang’i said that the government was at top gear to ensure that the city becomes a reality calling on all arms of government to pull together in one synergy to coordinate all ongoing government projects.
He noted zoning in the “city to be” to have been a challenge but he convened a meeting with three governor’s; Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Ole lenku (Kajiado) to tackle the matter.
He said that the aspect of water provision to the projected smart city will be addressed promising to meet the relevant ministry bosses.
On his side the ICT CS underscored the importance of the ultra-modern security command centre saying its operations will be highly interconnected and automated unlike the current Kenya’s police stations.
Mucheru said since the smart city will be a home of thousands of people then a well-rounded security centre was a priority to boost cyber security which has always been a priority to most advanced cities in the world.
According to statistics from the Communications Authority (CA) in the last quarter of last year, there were more than 56 million cyber threats in Kenya.
This was seen to be an increase indicator to the previous quarter which stood at 35.2 million, an increase of 56 percent in cyber threats.
CS Matiangi also called on political leaders from all counties who will soon be called for meetings so that they engage all residents in the entire 3 counties. Eng. Thaddeus Nzambia who is the Kilome MP and was in the entourage affirmed that though there have been challenges before, now they have come up together for the Konza project is among the biggest in Kenya. On employment, he added that most of casual jobs are being awarded to locals.
After the launch, the two cabinet secretaries toured the road block in Konza area along Mombasa road to inspect enforcement measures.
