Matiang’i assures parents, candidates of a clean exam

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has assured parents and candidates that this year’s KCPE will be ‘clean’ devoid of any malpractices.

Speaking in Garissa today, after witnessing the opening of containers stationed at Sankuri and County Commissioner’s compound, Matiang’i warned those hell bent in engaging on what he termed as monkey business saying they will be dealt with ruthlessly.

Matiang’i who later visited Garissa primary school dispelled rumours doing round that the exam had already been leaked as untrue.

The CS said that the few challenges that had been experienced in  terms of transportation of exam material following the heavy rains in Mandera and Wajir counties had been sorted out.

“We are a well-coordinated team between ministry of education, interior and the KDF. We have positioned aircrafts to airlift exam materials in centres that might experience challenges because of the enhanced rains,” Matiang’i said.

“I would like make this assurance to all Kenyans that we are ready as team to deliver a clean exam. That is the direction we are going,” he added.

He said gone are those days when cheating was the order of the day putting credibility of the entire examination exercise into disrepute.

“We are re-setting our national value system so that our children understand that there is only one way, honest hard work and no room for monkey business,” the CS said.

“We don’t anticipate or foresee any challenge and if it occurs we are ready to deal with it. We have been meticulous in our planning and coordination between various agencies and ministries involved and its our hope and prayer that nothing will go wrong,” he noted.

On security, the CS also assured candidates along the border the border Somalia that has had challenges of insecurity due to Al-Shabaab incursions that they will equally be secured during the examination period.

Present were North Eastern regional commissioner Mohamed Birik, County Commissioner Joshua Chepchieng’ and other senior government officials.

Some 1,060,000 candidates are expected to seat for this year’s KCPE exam this year.
