The Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Forestry Mr. Keriako Tobiko has today appeared before the Environment Committee over the uproar surrounding the Mau forest evictions.
This comes after the Government ordered persons living in the Mau forest to vacate in its effort towards the restoration of the once powerful water tower. Tobiko earlier on pointed out that the reason compensation should not be considered for those evicted is that they had illegally occupied the forest.
The government has ordered that everyone should have vacated the forest by November. During the sitting Tobiko wondered how land had expanded from people living on the fringes of the forest to actually living in the forest.
“We all know that land is not elastic, it doesn’t expand. Where did it expand to? It expanded into the Mau Narok Forest. ”
