Michael Oyamo to remain in custody until October 8

Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s PA Michael Oyamo will remain under police custody until 8th October when the court will hear his case on bail application. Wednesday morning, the accused was arraigned in court and charged with the murder of the Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

Oyamo pleaded not guilty of the brutal murder of the slain student, who was stubbed 8 times. In a case presided over by High Court Judge Jessie Lessit, the defense had requested for more time to allow them revise the affidavit earlier issued to them by the court.

The prosecution on the other hand, said the case surrounding Oyamo and his boss, who is the Migori County Governor, Okoth Obado, is complex and more time should be given for appropriate investigation to be finalized.

“Governor Obado is a person of influence and so is his Personal Assistant Michael Obado. Releasing him on a cash bail is risky because they can interfere with investigations and witnesses, we rather should have him in police custody,” said State Counsel Tom Mbali.

After his apprehension, the governor’s PA spent 14 days under the police custody owing to the prosecution’s request for more time to carry out investigations into the brutal murder of Miss Sharon. Oyamo will have to spend another 12 days until the court hears his case on cash bail release.
