Ministry of Health welcomed a delegation of the Health Non-Governmental Organizations Network (HENNET) led by Interim Chairperson Dr. Caroline Njuguna for strategic engagements focused on enhancing collaboration in line with Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
The session focused on coordinating NGO activity along national health priorities, particularly in the journey toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Certain areas of focus included domestic funding for vaccine immunization, maternal and child health, digital transparency, and permanent funding for vaccines.
Cabinet Secretary for Health cited the success of the ongoing Taifa Care reforms, highlighting some of the major accomplishments in the areas of system integration, promotion of patient dignity, and elimination of bed sharing in public hospitals.
To support coordination and maximize the impact, the Cabinet Secretary established three strategic initiatives:
1. Establishing a structured Ministry of Health–HENNET discourse and performance monitoring system.
2. Leveraging HENNET’s technical expertise in cold chain training and community mobilization.
3. Launching joint advocacy and resource mobilization for sustainable health financing.
“There is need to shift from donor reliance to resilient, locally funded systems,” the CS stressed.
Anchoring on strong partnerships, policy frameworks and citizen-driven accountability.
Attending the meeting were PS Public Health and Professional Standards Ms. Mary Muthoni, Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, and Director of Family Health Dr. Bashir Isaak.
