Mombasa resident petitions to block IEBC from locking out Joho in August elections

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s  political career is at stake following recent developments from the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

His fate now lies o the hands of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)  who will decide on whether he will be able to defend his seat or not in the August 8 General Election.

This follows a decision arrived ar by the High Court to reject a bid by petitioner Abdalla Juma to have the court bar IEBC from clearing Joho.

Abadalla Juma had arrived in court petitioning IEBC to accept Joho’s  ODM clearance certificates for his direct nomination to defend the seat.

Giving the petition ruling, Justice Chacha Mwita said that only IEBC can determine his qualifications.

Justice Chacha further ordered Juma to serve those mentioned in the case and appear in court on the 3rd of next month for further directions.

It is public knowledge that a candidate with KCSE D-minus cannot qualify for admission to any university in Kenya or East Africa and neither can such a candidate do a bridging course and ultimately join a university,” the court papers filed by Juma’s lawyer, Irungu Kang’ata, say.

ODM party leader Raila Odinga has been named as a respondent for issuing Joho with a nomination certificate.

The applicant has asked the court to force the University of Nairobi and the Kenya National Examinations Council to produce Joho’s academic papers, adding that he must have forged them.
