Mombasa sidelined? County funds allocations raise questions

The newest allocations to County Government by the National Government has raised a storm of discussions.

This came after Meru County was allocated Ksh Sh12.2 billion in the next financial year,  almost double of what Mombasa County was allocated.

In proposals contained in a draft Budget Policy Statement for the 2017-18 financial year, Meru County will be the biggest winner if the plans are approved.

Mombasa county has been allocated Ksh 6.9 billion to funds the county activities.

According to the draft now open to public for comments, Meru County will get Sh12.2 billion in the next financial year. Last year, the County had been allocated  KSh9.42 billion.

Twitter goes reacts

It was an expression of displeasure following the ‘meagre’ allocation to Mombasa County.

Almost ending in online brawl, the twitter users wondered how a county hosting port could be allocated such small figure.’

Others even went on to propose that the county should be allowed to collect revenue from the port.
