Monday, September 12, declared a public holiday

The government of Kenya has declared Monday a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Adha.

This was gazetted Gazette by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery

Idd-Ul-Adha [Festival of Sacrifice] is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of prophet Ibrahim to follow Allah’s (God’s) command to sacrifice his son Ishmael.

The annual is mandatory religious duty to Muslims, to visit Mecca, at least once in their lifetime by all adult Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey.

It is observed every year by Muslim faithful around the world at the end of pilgrimage [Hajj]. During the pilgrimage, Muslims remember and commemorate the trials and triumphs of the prophet.
