The Kenyan activist known as Morara Kebaso Snr has faced charges of cyber harassment per Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018.
The allegations arising from his dramatic arrest on Monday are related to an incident that took place on September 28, 2024.
He faced allegations of disseminating misleading information regarding billionaire businessman David Langat on his X account.
The charge sheet indicates that Kebaso, in conjunction with other individuals who have not yet appeared in court, intentionally disseminated a message designed to undermine businessman David Langat and damage his reputation.
The publication inaccurately asserted that President William Ruto had solicited financial support from Langat during his campaign, which prompted Langat to secure substantial loans by leveraging his properties as collateral.
According to the charge sheet the publication claimed that Langat was currently facing auction proceedings initiated by banks and that President Ruto was allegedly exploiting his influence to acquire Langat’s properties at a significantly reduced price.
Following his arraignment, Morara was released on a cash bail of Ksh.50,000, with the case scheduled for mention on October 4.
Morara Kebaso has emerged as a prominent critic of President William Ruto, asserting that numerous initiatives under the Kenya Kwanza administration are either delayed or have not yet been implemented.
The Activist highlighted the significance of his role in ensuring government accountability, expressing that he does not prioritize his safety to remain focused on his mission.
Earlier Morara Kebaso Snr explained to Kenyans publicly that he have experienced incidents where his phone was tracked and vehicles with untraceable number plates were seen near his home.
The leader of the NARC-Kenya Party, Hon. Martha Karua, is acting as the principal counsel for Morara Kebaso, supported by a team of over ten legal advocates.
