The Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp just watched his side fail to do more than draw at Sunderland, then failed to explain why.
There was no surprise when the visitors poked out in front through Daniel Sturridge less than ten minutes into proceedings.
But the hosts drew level from the spot through Jermaine Defoe to send all the fans into the break on level terms
Liverpool manager avoided questions on the aborted win saying he had no idea.
“I have no idea, I don’t know,” he ventured, in a crestfallen performance flitting between unintelligibility and stroppy angst.
“Oh my God, do you really want to start with that?” he replied, when asked about the Black Cats’ second penalty.
Sunderland boss
“Maybe if I was a German manager, you might praise that, actually,” said the former Manchester United boss, reflecting on comments made by his counterpart in Jurgen Klopp about their overly defensive performance at Anfield in November.
“If I had been German, you might have been saying, ‘Great, you’re doing something different,’” said the snarky Scotsman before praising Sunderland’s resilience.
“I thought we did well, stuck at it, stuck up against Liverpool as much as we could and tried to make it hard for them, and played well as well.”
Two Jermain Defoe penalty kicks meant hosts Sunderland twice came from behind on Monday to earn a point against second-placed Liverpool.
