MPs to investigate controversial clinics – Containers

The procurement of 100 mobile clinics by the Ministry of Health at a cost of Ksh 1 billion remains questionable as Member’s of parliament progress to investigate them.

The National Assembly Health Committee is chaired by Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamai to grill Health Cabinet Secretary, Cleopa Mailu.on Thursday, November 10 has raised questions

On Thursday, November 10, the MPs  raised questions over the cost of the mobile clinic containers which are still lying at the National Youth Service (NYS) grounds in Mombasa.

With each container going for Ksh 10m, the committee members believes that the said clinics may not be worth the figure.

“We must visit the site where the containers have been stored for over a year before we come up with our report,” said the Health Committee member.

Speaking during his appearance before the Committee, Mailu insisted that the alleged financial loss at Afya House is unconfirmed since he is still awaiting a final audit report from the National Treasury.

“I am still waiting for the final audit report from Treasury to ascertain whether money was lost as claimed in the leaked interim audit report,” he said.

The grilling was adjourned after the CS fell unwell during the session.
