MPs adopt report less hopping clause

Members of parliament yesterday passed the report that was prepared by Joint Parliamentary Select Committee (JPSC) on Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) but only after deleting the clause that restricted party hopping.

When the report was presented to the lawmakers for the first day of debate it faced little resistance from the legislators.

Things become hard to those intending to oppose the report when Deputy Speaker, Joyce Laboso, requested the amendment to first seek approval of National Assembly Majority Leader AdenDuale (Jubilee) and Minority Leader Francis Nyenze (CORD) since the report was reached following negotiations between the two coalitions

Before the press conference on Thursday, Raila Odinga had also asked the lawmakers from both coalitions to respect the decision of the committee and pass the report less nothing, not even a full stop or comma amendment.
