Seven suspects including Former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana have been arraigned in court to face corruption charges. Mungatana and the others are yet to be charged with 40 counts of corruption-related charges . They appeared before Malindi chief Magistrate Julie Oseko but have not taken plea as the lawyer representing Mungatana apllied to ensure his client does not take plea until he is supplied with statements and all documents being used by the prosecution.
The lawyer, Mr Ndegwa Njiru said Mungatana was not mentally fit to take plea and should be given 2 weeks to grieve after loosing his wife.
Prosecution declined the application and asked the court to remand the suspect in the police station as they prepare the documents.
Those arraigned alongside Mungatana are John Kahindi Kalume, Paul Tendo Mwazo, Josephine Felix Mramba , Ibrahim Mwanje Zia, Lucy Wanjugu Kibogo and Benaya Kisaka Mugavana.
The eight were arrested over the irregular payment of Sh51.5 million shillings to six private companies by Kilifi County government.
