Murang’a Governor Launches First Health Automation System In Level 5 Facility

Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata launched a Health Management Information System (HMIS) to help improve the delivery of medical services at Murang’a level five hospital.

This system will record and store health data so that it can be retrieved and processed to improve decision-making and service delivery.

According to the governor, the automation of health services at this hospital, which is the first of its kind in a level five hospital in the country will see patients registered electronically and their treatment records stored electronically.

Kang’ata explained that the system will ease access to medical services in the hospital as patients will not be required to carry forms from one station to another and the patient will then receive the details of their treatment on the phone which they can retrieve in case they need to seek support services from other facilities.

The system will also aid in treatment as the doctors will be able to access the medical history of repeat patients and treat them accordingly.

The system will also help monitor the consumption of various drugs and help in restocking those drugs as demanded.

He intends to introduce the system in all hospitals across the county starting with the level four hospitals.

The governor also launched CCTV cameras in the hospital to help with monitoring service delivery and also deter loss of public funds caused by stealing of drugs from the hospital something he deemed a major challenge.

Kang’ata also donated wheelchairs and other mobility assistance items to persons with disabilities in collaboration with the catholic diocese of Murang’a.
