A section of young people from Murang’a County have cautioned Deputy President William Ruto from endorsing some candidates for various positions in the next general elections. The youth allied to a group dubbed Murang’a Youth Democrats has said United Democratic Alliance (UDA) stands to lose if some candidates will be endorsed without doing transparent party nominations. They castigated the move where Deputy President on Tuesday seemed to endorse Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata to vie for governor and lawyer Edward Muriu to vie for Gatanga Member of Parliament seat.
The youth led by Joshua Mwangi and Kamau Mutwota faulted those who are visiting the deputy president’s residence to be endorsed saying lack of democracy in the party will make many supporters of UDA shift their allegiance to other parties. On his part Mutwota said he noted that currently there are several parties from mount Kenya region which are supporting UDA but a section of leaders want the parties to be solved saying the idea is not democratic. Another member of the group Johnson Maina said if UDA want to be different from other political parties, it should conduct fair and transparent party primaries without imposing some leaders to people.
