Mvita outgoing Mp and ODM candidate for Mombasa gubernatorial seat Abdulswamad Nassir is heading to the court today to compel the electoral body IEBC to conduct the governor elections on Tuesday as earlier announced.
IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati yesterday postponed the elections for Mombasa and Kakamega indefinitely citing frustrations and intimidation of his officials.
The elections which were to take place on August 9, were postponed on technical issues.
“The law is very clear about postponing elections, you cannot just wake up and decide to postpone it, haiwezekani” Nassir said.
“We will go to court; we are going to expect an order that the elections will be held on the stipulated date”
Nassir was addressing the media yesterday evening, where he said that there was no reason to postpone the election.
“We demand for the election to be done on Tuesday. We are also demanding for answers as to why they were postponed,” Nassir said.
OnAugust 8, hours before Election Day, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati postponed the gubernatorial ballot for Mombasa and Kakamega counties saying they had the wrong names, photos and details of the candidates.
Other regions that experienced the mix-up were Kachiliba and Pokot South constituencies.
