“My Son Is Innocent,” Jowie Irungu’s Mother

In the company of Jowie’s defence lawyer, Irungu’s emotional mother addressed the press asserting the innocence of her son.

She insisted that her son had committed no crime and that the truth would be unravelled in due time. “My son is innocent,” she stated. “Hajafanya makosa yoyote, hajaua. Kuna kitu ninaamini , a God of a second chance na atamtoa.”

(My son is innocent, he has committed no crime, and he did not kill anyone. I believe in a God of second chances and He shall vindicate him.) Irungu’s mother inferred from the Bibledefenceense of her son.

” Niko na Nguvu kwa sababu Mungu ninaamini ndiye atamtoa. He is like Joseph. Joseph alidhulumiwa hivi, na Mungu bado akamtoa, na hata naamini sasa atamtoa wakati was Mungu Ukifika.” she added. (My son is like Joseph in the bible who suffered but God helped him. He will be released, and that is why I still have the strength that my son will be released when God’s time is right.)

However, Jowie’s defence counsel expressed that they were not taken aback by the verdict, as they had anticipated a similar outcome. Nevertheless, he remarked that Justice Nzioka appeared to be aiming to appease the public in her judgment.

“Let me whet your appetite, I think all of you remember the words of Lady Justice Nzioka when she was passing Jowie’s sentence. We are firm in our belief that during this whole process, the honourable lady justice with respect was playing to the gallery and aiming at placating the court of the public,” said Jowie’s lawyer.

He claimed that the verdict pronounced in court diverged significantly from the written judgment, suggesting it was tailored to specifically satisfy public opinion.
Maintaining Jowie’s innocence, he declared intentions to appeal the verdict, asserting that the notice of appeal was prepared. He also emphasized that Jowie was convicted solely on circumstantial evidence.
