Naivasha, detectives have arrested a 30-year-old nanny identified as Mary Chebet in connection with the gruesome murder of her employer, Jane Wambui Njoroge.
Jane, a nurse at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, was reported missing on July 4, 2025, after failing to return home from work.
“The arrest follows reports received from the husband of the deceased, a resident of the Karai area in Naivasha, that his wife, who works at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, went missing on 4 July 2025, after leaving her workplace en route home,” stated the DCI.
Detectives from the Naivasha Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched investigations, eventually identifying the family’s live-in nanny as the prime suspect.
Upon interrogation, Chebet cracked under pressure and led officers to the family’s residence in the Karai area, where the grim discovery was made.
“Under interrogation, she led the officers to the victim’s home in Karai, where she revealed the horrifying scene, her employer’s body buried in a shallow grave behind the house, “ added the DCI.
With the help of public health officials, the decomposing body of the deceased was exhumed.
In a chilling detail, pieces of clothing were found tightly wrapped around her neck, indicating she had been strangled.
However, Chebet remains in custody at Naivasha Police Station as detectives finalize investigations, pending her arraignment.
