Justice A.K. Ndungu, presiding at the Nanyuki High Court, has sentenced a middle-aged man to 30 years in prison for the brutal murder of a resident in Kimagandura Area.
The accused was found guilty of the offence, which occurred on May 19, 2015, under Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.
The prosecution, led by Mr. Jackson Motende and Ms. Esther Kimani, presented evidence that proved the case beyond any reasonable doubt.
“The particulars of the offence were that on 19th May 2015, at Kimagandura Area, within Laikipia County, the accused murdered the deceased by hacking him to death,” stated the ODPP.
“The prosecution, led by Mr. Jackson Motende and Ms. Esther Kimani, presented evidence that proved the case beyond any reasonable doubt,” the ODPP added.

The court was convinced that the accused, in a fit of violence, hacked the deceased to death.In delivering the sentence, Justice Ndungu highlighted the absence of remorse shown by the accused throughout the proceedings.
He also emphasized the barbaric nature of the crime, describing the manner in which the murder was carried out as particularly heinous.
“It was also noted that the manner in which he killed the deceased was particularly barbaric,” noted the ODPP.
The court acknowledged the profound impact of the deceased’s death on his family, noting that he was the primary breadwinner.The severe sentence reflects the gravity of the crime and serves as a stern warning against such violent acts.
The ruling brings a measure of closure to the bereaved family, who have endured years of suffering following the tragic loss of their loved one.
