Narok county security team has arrested 18 people in a crackdown on contraband’s and illicit brews.
Speaking after the operation,area county commissioner Mr Isaac Masinde regretted that some people were selling without permit,some hawking them like groundnuts.
He said the operation committee formed to tackle the menace in the two days of operation managed to net the illicit brew sellers.
Mr Masinde said that the operation that started in Narok Central Sub-County will continue in all the eight sub-counties for the next three months.
The county commissioner revealed that the illicit brews are brewed outside the county but consumed within the county.
He has however warned those selling contraband’s will be arrested and charged.
He has asked them to adhere to the rules if they are to be in business.
“All bars must be licensed.
Our security,county officers will continue with the operation.We want to ensure that all traders in alcohol do so within the law,”warned Mr Masinde.
He reiterated that the traders should ensure that they have county licenses,health licenses and their products should have KRA stamps.
He said the operation will also be done on the borders of the county between Nakuru and Migori.
He also directed traffic and county askari to be vigilant an inspect all vehicles especially proboxes and canters to ensure that no illicit brews from neighboring counties and countries such as Tanzania.
