Narok leaders condemn Johanah Ng’eno for allegedly preaching divisive politics

Recent utterances by Emurrua Dikirr legislator Johanah Ng’eno asking the larger Maasai clan ‘Purko’ to organize themselves politically or else the other small clans will join in and beat them, has not sunk well with most leaders in Narok County.

Various leaders among them the Narok Maasai council of elders and a host of Members of county assembly have bitterly condemned the legislator saying the utterances were intended to divide the Maa community.

The council of elders’ chairperson Kelena Ole Nchoe said the Maasais were one people and will not accept anyone who preaches divisive politics among them.

He spoke in the company of tens of council members after holding an indoor meeting in their office at Narok town.

Ole Nchoe who is a former Narok town mayor observed that the county is a cosmopolitan area where people from various backgrounds have developed and live there hence warning those who preach divisive politics.

He revisited the Mau evictions issue observing that a section of people who were evicted from the forest were still camping at the forest border with a hope that once another government came into power they would go back to the forest land.

“We thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for the great job he did to save the mega water catchment land. All people who were living in the forest were removed including the Maasai people,” he said.

Ole Nchoe lauded President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s handshake in the year 2018 that united all Kenyans regardless of their political and ethical background.

The council coordinator Maranga Ole Otuni asked the vocal legislator to keep off the Maa politics, wondering what interest he had with the Maa people.

A number of MCAs led by nominated MCA Christine Lemain have also condemned the legislator for his utterances.

In a local radio interview on Friday, the MCA asked Ng’eno to preach unity among the many tribes living in Narok.

Ng’eno made the utterances on Saturday last week while attending the burial of the mother of Narok Governor Samuel Tunai in Lolgorian area, Trans Mara West Sub County.
