Narok Residents Called on to Stop Selling Their Lands

Principal Secretary for the State Department of planning in The National Treasury  Saitoti Torome has pointed out reckless land sale as a key trigger for election-related clashes in some areas and some parts of Narok county and calls on Narok residents to keep off from selling their lands. Speaking during a church fundraising at Eor-Okule Catholic Church in Narok East, Torome noted that conflicts between the resident and nonresident is because some Narok resident sell their lands and when the country approaches election period, the resident start the conflicts and start removing non resident to their lands they sold to them.

He called on the resident to stop this ahead of 2022 election and also told them to stop selling their lands and instead they focus on Agricultural practices  to produce enough food for both consumption and for selling in order to get money than selling their lands and in return make them leave in poverty in future. His sentiments were echoed by nominated Member of County Assembly Susan Kutingala who called on men to end the trend which always lead to abject poverty but instead maximize land production.  Most herders in ASAL counties culturally travel for numerous distances in search of water and pasture but end up in private farms, some of which have more than enough for their starving cattle. She also called on Maasai Men to focus on their productive lands and utilize from them. She called on women too to stand firm and stop their husbands from selling their lands which has made many families remain poor.
