NASA wins big in presidential results ruling

The presidential results announced at every voting station will be final, the court has ruled.

This comes  as a big win tom the National Super Alliance (NASA) principals who were facing Independent Elctoral and Bourderies Commisson on court following a petition on the prior ruling by the court.

IEBC had moved to court to appeal the ruling saying thatthe presidential results should be announced at the IEBC quarters saying the the Presiding Officers should only announce all other results apart from presidential results.

The bench of judges ruled that ‘presidential results to be declared at the constituency level by the returning officer’.

Reading the ruling Justice William Ouko further upheld that the announced results should not be subjected to any alterations.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission had stated that the results from the constituency have to be verified at the national tallying centre.

The bench also stated that the High Court has jurisdiction to hear disputes that relate to a presidential election.
