The Committee on Appointments has today before the parliament rejected the nomination of Stella Soi Lang’at as the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage.

This was announced by Leader of the Majority Party Kimani Ichungwah today as he tabled the matter as a special motion before parliament.

However the other 19 nominees elected by President Ruto were approved by the committee.

In a report tabled in Parliament by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah on Wednesday, all other nominees were approved except for Soi.

“The Committee rejects the appointment of Ms Stella Soi Lang’at,” he read.

The President had dismissed all his Cabinet Secretaries following protests by Gen Z who were initially complaining about the Finance Bill 2024.

“I have decided to dismiss with immediate effect all cabinet secretaries and attorney general of the Cabinet of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs,” Ruto said

The President had named his first batch of nominees on Friday 19th July and by Wednesday the 24th of July he had finalized a revised list of the same.

In posts and posters that circulated online, the Gen Z and Millenials began to complain about the displays of opulence by some Cabinet Secretaries and even their age.

The National Assembly Plenary is set to make a decision on whether to reject or approve the vetting committee’s report.

If the plenary decides to accept the report as presented, President William Ruto will need to nominate a new candidate for the ministry.

Should a new nominee be proposed, they will also be required to undergo vetting and approval by the Committee on Appointments.

Soi was part of the initial group of 20 Cabinet Secretary Nominees who were vetted last Thursday.
