The Commandant of the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA), Mr. David K. Mathiu, AIG, formally concluded the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Sensitisation Training of Trainers (TOT) Course on 19th February 2025 at the Leadership Academy located in Ngong.
The three-day program was organized in collaboration with the Gender Violence Recovery Center (GVRC), a distinguished institution dedicated to the prevention of gender-based violence through awareness initiatives and advocacy, in addition to offering complimentary comprehensive medical and psychological assistance to survivors.
“The course had 26 participants drawn from the National Police Service (NPS), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC), and media representatives,” NPS said on X.
The Commandant emphasized the significance of this training, highlighting its alignment with the President’s dedication to eliminating gender-based violence within the nation.
Additionally, he pointed out that the training has provided participants with essential skills necessary for the effective investigation and management of GBV cases, enabling them to share this knowledge with fellow officers at the station level.
In attendance were the Chief Executive Officer of GVRC, Ms. Alberta Wambua; the NPS Deputy Director of Training, Dr. Gideon Kirui, CP; the NPLA Dean of Students, Sicily Gatiti, CP; the NPLA Deputy Commandant, Dr. David Muthondeki, SSP; and other senior officers from NPLA and GVRC.
