New Reforms Put in Place For Kenya’s National Police and Youth Service

By Ronny Thiong’o

In a strategic move set to fortify Kenya’s framework in security and youth services, Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure has announced the formation of a technical committee.

The newly appointed team will assign the task of reviewing and developing legislative policies for the National Police Service (NPS) and the National Youth Service (NYS), following the reforms set into action by former Chief Justice David Maraga.

The technical committee’s main goal is to enhance the effectiveness, accountability, and governance of both the NPS and NYS.

“These reforms aim to bring about legislative changes that better align with the needs of both organizations while promoting transparency and public trust, “says CS Kindiki.

The committee will carefully examine current laws and identify areas that require amendments or complete overhauls to strengthen the legal framework governing the NPS and NYS.

The committee will draft new policies that support the modernization and efficiency of these services, ensuring they meet contemporary standards and expectations.

“To foster inclusivity and public participation, the committee will conduct consultations with various stakeholders, including the general public, to gather insights and feedback on the proposed reforms,” added CS Kindiki.

“Public consultation is a critical aspect of this reform process. By involving citizens, the government aims to ensure that the new policies reflect the collective will and address the real concerns of the Kenyan people. This approach not only enhances transparency but also builds a sense of ownership and cooperation among all stakeholders,” NYS stated on their X account.

For the next nine months, Kenya’s National Police and Youth Services are set to be transformative. With a clear roadmap and dedicated efforts from the Technical Committee, these reforms promise a more robust, accountable, and people-centred approach to governance.

As the nation anticipates these changes, the commitment to security, service, and youth empowerment remains unshakeable.
