The rise of Chelsea, the fall of Leicester City
With little known about the 2015/2016 English Premier League Leicester City, the team joined the EPL after they were promoted from Championship.
The team’s arrival was not given the attention until when the team fought back to secure another season in EPL avoiding the relegation by a whisker in the season that Chelsea football club won the EPL table.
Leicester City Football Club hence finished 14th in the 2014/2015 premier league campaign with 41 points, Chelsea winning the league with 81 points.
The rise of Leicester, Fall of Chelsea
Claudio Ranieri, Leicester City coach began mind games stressing in each press conference that Leicester City was targeting only 40 points to secure another year in most famous EPL. Within the same year, the Champions, Chelsea club began tumbling down, losing games consecutively until Jose Mourinho was fired.
What looked like a joke of the century began producing some sense. From position 15th in December 2014, Leicester City stuck to position one on EPL table and by 15th December 2015 they looked like they owned it forever.
This progressed on until Leicester was announced the winner of EPL, with Claudio Ranieri registering another historic record in Leicester City books or record, Champions league participants.
Leicester won the league with 81 points with Chelsea coming 10th with 50 points.
Rise of Chelsea, fall of Leicester
After Leicester city won the Premier league, pundits began making predictions that majority of players would leave Leicester – of which happened – adding that the team will find it difficult to defend the title.
But by the recent developments, Leicester City looks more focused on Champions league more that EPL, with this season Ranieri busy defending 40 points target, a target he set before Leicester was announced the winner.
But the most interesting part of it is the turn of events. The same date and position Leicester was before winning the EPL is what Chelsea has inherited. The Blues stand 43 points ahead of Manchester City who thumbed Arsenal 2-1 in a fantastic comeback.
Common figure
Debate on why that turn could be eating people’s mind. Chelsea hired a new coach, Antonio Conte and did little of management re-organization.
Leicester only lost some players, with N’Kolo Kante joining Chelsea. On his arrival, Kante turned to be Chelsea thunderbolt, overturning the poor form of Chelsea players and resurrecting the passion of Champions.
Could Kante be the secret ‘luck’ towards EPL winning? If that is the fact, and by the look of the past Leicester form on the same date for the same trophy then Kante may add another mendal this season now with Chelsea.
