NMG Announces Workforce Reduction Amid Transformation Agenda

National Media Group (NMG), a renowned media house, has embarked on a transformative journey, navigating through significant changes as part of its ambitious transformation agenda.

This strategic initiative aims to reposition NMG as a leader in the rapidly evolving media landscape, focusing on digital innovation, audience engagement, and sustainable growth.

“The media landscape is undergoing rapid transformation:Changes in audience consumption habits, technology, and other macro-economic factors have disrupted business models across the world. While the industry has faced challenges, we are appraised of the digital content creation and consumption opportunity that exists not only in Kenya but across the continent,” stated NMG.

In a statement released on 7th June, 2024 the implementation of the strategy will lead to a workforce reduction.

“As part of the continued implementation of our strategy, we are evolving into a learner, more agile organization that will drive the efficient delivery of services to our audiences and innovate rapidly to reap the benefits of the digital economy. Regrettably, this will necessitate a workforce reduction,” read the statement.

“This exercise will be carried out with utmost respect to our employees and in adherence to Kenyan labour laws.This decision is incredibly difficult, and we are cognisant of the impact it will have on lives and livelihoods. We will therefore provide the necessary support to help those affected manage this transition,” the statement read in part.

February 26, 2024, the National Media Group hosted the fourth edition of National Digital Summit in Naivasha, Nakuru County, themed “Synergies in Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence.”

The Nation Digital Summit aimed to help organizations implement the best technology and digital strategies in accordance with global trends and consumer needs.

The summit brought together journalists, business leaders, policymakers, academia, and tech enthusiasts, among other subjects. The exploration of AI and its implications for the future of media was discussed.

The National Media Group was founded by His Highness, The Aga Khan in 1959 transitioning into a multi-media organization operating not only in Kenya but also in Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda.
