No Promise to Rugby Team Fulfilled, Even Uhuru’s Sh 10M

rugThe Kenya Rugby Sevens team, Shujaa, has revealed that no reward pledged to the players after a victorious win at the Singapore Sevens Series has been fulfilled.

The team had been promised by President Uhuru Kenyatta a whopping Sh10 Million,Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko pledged Sh100,000 for each player while Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario promised that the government would give Sh2 Million to the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) to clear all accrued allowances and bills.

Shujaa’s sponsor Kenya Airways also jumped in and promised Sh100,000 token to each of the 17 players and three tickets to any of the airline’s destination.

After winning the Singapore main cup, Shujaa was received triumphantly in the country with most politicians being on the forefront seeking association with the team.

The team was also hosted by the President at State House for dinner where the Sh10 Million promise which is yet to be fulfiled was made.The Kenya Sevens national team will be jetting out of the country for the Paris Sevens Tournament scheduled for 13-15 May, 2016.
