No reprieve yet as treasury denies receiving court order barring implementation of 16% VAT on fuel

Kenyans will continue to bear the burden of 16% VAT on petroleum products as treasury has insisted that it will continue to implement the VAT until a solution is found on the matter.

Appearing before the senate committee on Energy, Treasury CAS Nelson Gaichuhi said treasury is yet to be served with the court order barring the implementation.

He further said consultations are ongoing on the matter since the government is supposed to raise 35 billion revenue to fund the budget through the implementation of the VAT tax.

This comes even as President Uhuru Kenyatta remains silent on the matter.
