On 27th March 2025, four specialist officers from the National Police Service (NPS) were briefed ahead of their deployment to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
The briefing was led by Mr. Mathew Kutoh, the Principal Assistant to the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja, as part of preparations for their mission with the Specialised Police Team (Anti-Cattle Raiding Component).
During the session, Mr. Kutoh emphasized the importance of upholding the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and professionalism.
“Mr. Kutoh urged the officers to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and professionalism. He emphasized their role as Kenya’s ambassadors, encouraging them to maintain discipline, foster teamwork, and adhere strictly to UN regulations to ensure a successful mission,” stated NPS.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the officers,nselected from the Kenya Police Service (KPS), Administration Police Service (APS) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), will serve for a 12-month period under the command of Mr. Kioko Munyambu, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
Their primary role will be to undertake specialized duties focused on preventing and addressing cattle raiding, which has been a significant source of conflict in the region, while contributing to broader peacekeeping and security efforts in South Sudan.
This deployment reinforces Kenya’s ongoing commitment to regional stability and its contribution to international peacekeeping missions.
The officers will join others already serving in South Sudan, working alongside fellow peacekeepers to uphold peace and security in the region.
Also present at the briefing was Mr. Albert Masese, the NPS Staff Officer for Peace Support Operations.
