Nurses protest colleague prosecutions

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) nurses have gone in protest against the prosecution of their co-nurses who are scheduled for prosecution after the trio was linked to the murder of a patient.

In solidarity, on Monday, the nurses camped outside Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi in support of their colleagues facing murder charges over the death of the cancer patient.

Together with a support staff, the three nurses are said to have played a role in murder Cosmas Mutunga, 42 who was  found lying dead on his KNH bed.

Mutunga had sustained a wound on his head and according to the police, the wound was caused by a blunt object believed to have been used to hit him.

The four suspects were taken for mental assessment to determine whether they are fit to plead to the murder charges and stand full trial, with their colleagues vowing to stay put outside the court.

In their defence, the co-nurses said that the accused were not only the people on duty on that material day when the late met his death but police say that they were in better position to see anybody entering the room where the patient slept.

On Monday, the nurses vowed not to go to work until their colleagues are released unconditionally.
