Nyakundi on the spot following his blogs about Safaricom.

The leading telecommunication giant in Kenya, Safaricom, has sued the controversial blogger Cyprian Nyakundi for defamation over articles in which he said the telecommunications giant is exploiting Kenyans.

Nyakundi has been summoned for accusing Safaricom of firing its staff for falling ill. In addition, the company further notes that he published articles concerning matters being addressed in court.

Nyakundi was served on Tuesday by lawyers Mriu, Mungai & Co Advocates on behalf of CEO Bob Collymore and his predecessor Michael Joseph.

The chances of tracing him were said to be minute, something that made Safaricom request the blogger to be served through a gazette.

“Take notice that the application will be heard on June 28, 2017. If you do not attend, the application will be heard your absence withstanding,” newspaper notice read.

Temporary injunctions by Milimani Law court have been issued stopping the blogger from publishing any article about Sasfaricom. The company cited the part 1 – 16 series of “offensive” articles by Nyakundi saying they were unsubstantial, unsupported and portrayed it as fraudulent.

The three parts respectively are; ‘How Safaricom steals from Kenyans with third parties’, ‘Your privacy and Safaricom are two different things,‘ and ‘Time to put Safaricom back in its box before it seriously hurts Kenyans‘.
