Nyeri Governor flagged of consignment of Drugs worth Kshs.52.2 Million
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has today flagged off the second consignment of medical supplies and drugs worth Kshs. 52.2 million purchased from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).
Speaking after flagging off the consignment, Mutahi said the County has been experiencing challenges with adequacy of medical drugs and other supplies in our health facilities. He attributed this challenges with cash flow from the equitable share.
Mutahi said the supplies will be distributed to all the 127 public health facilities and ensure uninterrupted service delivery in the next four months
To address this the Nyeri County Health Services Fund has been enacted and approved by the controller of budget and will ensure timely disbursement of funds to our health facilities and guarantee that all health facilities in Nyeri County have both basic and specialized medical supplies all the time
The supplies have been distributed in the following ways: drugs- Kshs. 41 million, non-pharmaceutical – Kshs. 8.2 million x-ray supplies- Kshs. 1.8 million and gloves- Kshs. 1.2 million. The medical drugs contained in this delivery include antibiotics, drugs for diabetes, hypertension and other non-communicable diseases, antiseptics, oral and injectable pain killers, intravenous fluids among others.
The Nyeri County department of health services has further submitted orders for supply of additional medical supplies worth Kshs. 12.8 million some of which are cancer drugs for the chemotherapy centre. The first consignment worth Kshs. 11 million arrived a fortnight ago and was distributed to all public health facilities.
