Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has called upon all Nyeri residents to continue adhering to the Covid-19 containment measures in order to bring to zero the number of cases reported in the County .
Speaking during a press briefing in his office today, Mutahi said so far the County of Nyeri has recorded two thousand and fifty seven (2057 cases of Covid-19 disease and 118 deaths.
Three new confirmed Covid-19 cases and one death were reported in the last 24 hours.
He added that Fifty seven percent of these cases were reported in the Nyeri Central Sub-county.
He said that currently there are 169 patients admitted in the various isolation facilities across the county adding that majority are asymptomatic (145) and isolated at King’ong’o G.K Prison,17 patients are on supplemental oxygen at Mt Kenya hospital.
He also said all those who received their first covid-19 vaccine dose that the Ministry of health has issued new guide-lines for the second dose ,saying that moving forward the second dose will be administered after 12 weeks and not 8 weeks as previously communicated.
He said all those eligible for the second dose will receive an SMS message communicating the new date for their 2nd dose appointment.
He however cited some of the challenges the county is facing ,inadequate medical drugs in the health facilities due to challenges with cash flow from the equitable share.
He said its being addressed in hrough engaging KEMSA to supply as they wait for the funds.
Mutahi said he believe that the new county health services fund will address this in the short and long- term by ensuring all health facilities in the county have both basic and specialized medical supplies all the time.
